Dr. Solo A.K.A. Bill Baboon
Dr. Solo was born as Willem Venema, the third son out of four sons. It was 1969, the year that the Woodstock wind blew over the surface of the world and its spirit of freedom reached out and touched the young spirits in the land of wooden shoes, tulips and bicycles.
His dad worked as a builder, his mother was a housewife, and the countryside of Groningen with its beautiful meadows was the stage. Little Bill was a dreamer and a reader.
When he heard Bruce Springsteen he wanted to make music too and taught himself to play harmonica whilst listening to the 'Nebraska' album.
Unfortunately there wasn’t anyone in the neighborhood playing the guitar so he started to sing and play accordion.
Years later, when he was 24, he bought his first guitar.
With vocals, harmonica, guitars, bass, piano, drums, and a sad and lost trombone Dr. Solo recorded a free rock album
on four tracks in 2001.
Inspired by 60/70 rock, folk, classical music, jazz, blues, world-music (including music from outer space), J.S. Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Beefheart, JJ Cale, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Ornette Coleman, Cuby and the Blizzards, Miles Davis, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Focus, King Crimson, Thelonious Monk, Ravel, Bruce Springsteen, Henry Threadgill, Neil Young, Zappa, Led Zeppelin, and many, many more..
